The Shire is still full and the floodplain still lush, so this remains a month for colour rather than concentration: the landscape photographs beautifully, and the game viewing has not yet tightened around the river.
The river still runs the show, quietly
Elephant, buffalo and antelope remain spread across the park's interior rather than pinned to the Shire, so a boat safari is still your most reliable sighting per hour rather than a drive. Birding stays strong into March, with wet-season migrants lingering before the dry months push them out.
Roads improve gradually rather than suddenly, so a 4x4 is still sensible if you plan to self-drive early in the month.
Kuthengo reopens, and what to book around it
Kuthengo Camp comes back on 19 March after its scheduled closure through February, so book the back half of the month if its open-plain tents and included drinks are the draw. Everywhere else, Mvuu Lodge, Mvuu Camp, Chimwala Camp, the Chinguni houses and the campsite, has been open throughout.
If lush, green scenery over concentrated wildlife is genuinely what you want, book the first half of March rather than waiting for the crowds that build later in the year.
